I remember talking to you about this
to export your chart of accounts with the balance for each account on
the day specified - (you can then reimport to set up a new gnucash file
with the same chart of accounts and correct balances) - export >
export chart of accounts to QSF
I set up a new file each year so it doesn't get too unmanageable

it's easy to bring data in from reports using paste special in calc
I think the export methods in gnucash will be greatly improved by
version 2.4
I found it very easy to learn and to use and have not had any problems
with it other than the vat report issue which hopefully is now solved
