Hi
thought I'd give you all a quick rundown of what was discussed at the
HLUG meeting last night at the Courtyard.

We did a quick report back on the Tuxedu project -
Our parents evening at Fownhope was very successful with just over 30
parents attending along with Mark Sanderson from Hereford Council.
The parents all had fun exploring Tuxedu on school laptops and their
own machines and at the end of the evening they all practised booting
up into Tuxedu from the usb flash drives we supplied. 24 parents took
away USB drives (and a couple were going to attempt downloading and
burning Tuxedu), 8 more USB drives have been ordered by parents this
week. We supplied the Tuxedu ready loaded USB drives to the school
(thankyou Kevin) at cost which the school are selling on to parents and
using the profits to fund the purchase of their own Tuxedu USB
drives.(again at cost)
The head was very pleased with the numbers attending as it was
significantly higher than an average parents evening.
Mark Sanderson has invited us to speak at the herefordshire primary
schools ICT co-ordinators day in February which will give us a chance to
encourage other schools to take part in the project and speak to
teachers face to face.
The new website is up and running at http://www.tuxedu.org/
We had a prolonged discussion about install version of tuxedu and how to
make the project sustainable in the long term - we do need more help
from HLUG members and probably from outside the group - so if you want
to get involved now's a good time!

DFD - document freedom day is coming up - last year we ran an event at
allsaints but we are looking at something a little different this year
as it falls on March 28 which is the HLUG meeting night we thought we
might look at holding an open public meeting in Hereford and inviting
speakers - watch this space

As usual there was chat about a range of linux and FLOSS related
subjects and the Courtyard proved if not ideal a comfortable venue -
although we are looking at possibly having the february meet in
Leominster -

Sarah
