I think you probably mean OpenStreetMap http://www.openstreetmap.org/ which
is an open mapping dataset

There is a really thriving collection of communities doing things with maps
often on open source platforms.

If there are any own folk in this list I'd love to have a chat. I have
talked about organising a how - to evening on OpenStreetMap would there be
much interest in that? We might have to pay to get a suitable venue....
