I missed the last meeting as, in my case I unexpectily had to work late
Like you I'm no expert and have a computer very similiar spec to yours
AMD fx4100 quad core asus m5 a87 motherboard
mid range when I built it ( below bargain basement now)
Runs Linux 'cos it's free
not 'cos I enjoy it ;)
