[HLUG] Special Event Coming Soon

Hi,

I am not sure if this is the correct way to reply, or not, but I would like
to add my support to Ann's suggestion that Grange Court in Leominster woulkd
be a good venue for this event.

It is in an attractive location, and although easily accessible by car, with
plenty of adjacent free parking, it is only about 5 minutes (or less) walk
from Leominster station, or 10 minutes from the bus station, which is handy
for those who wish to use alternative means of transport.

Ann has already mentioned some of the facilities available there, and I get
the impression that they are anxious to encourage the use of available rooms
(of which there are more than one) for this type of 'event', so it is
certainly worth further investigation, I reckon!

Happy Easter to all!

David Rolfe

Hi

I've been thinking for a while that we need to get an event organised to
get things moving with the Lug a bit more before moving on to Software
Freedom Day in September.

Charlie - one of our newer lug members has kindly offered to do a talk or
some kind of event based on video editing/modelling with Blender and other
audio/visual open source tools relating to his work.

I hoped that Phil would be able to host a free of charge event at Hampton
Court as he previously said he would be able to help, but is spending most
of his time down in Somerset so is no longer able to help unfortunately.

So we're back arranging a room at either the St John Ambulance Hall, in
Hereford or the Kindle Centre near Asda in Hereford. I also hear that
Grange Court in Leominster has meeting rooms for hire but do not know if
these are available in the day, will have to find out.

I would anticipate to hold it at the earliest in May, or possibly June, but
obviously to fit in with Charlie and the room hire.

If anyone knows anywhere else that we can hire a room, or get a meeting
room with facilities for free please let us know.

Julian

Hi Gang,
I booked the "free meeting room" at The Exchange in Hereford for an
evening meeting last week.
The room itself is fine in theory, tables and seating for maybe 25-35
people. Both projector and flatscreen TV monitors were available. There
is wifi but I didn't need it during the meeting and did not persist in
getting a connection working.

The issue is the stairs, which are steep and have a bend. We were unable
to negotiate them with a wheel chair dependant child. There is no lift
or other useable access.
Other downsides, no food or even coffee - it's a sports pub.

I invite other members to satisfy themselves of the unsuitability of
this venue, maybe those that are in town could check out other possible
back room venues?
Freinds' meeting house comes to mind for a larger public event...

Grange Court is lovely especially the John Abel room, it is available
during the day and there is a small cafe, full disabled access to the
upstairs room - lift etc., not sure of the cost though but if you speak
to Dick Ellison he will be able to tell you. I went to a training day
there recently and all was well.
