Hi
Someone (sorry cant remember your name) asked why when he searched for
'hereford linux user group. ended up getting a slightly cryptic
response in goog;les search results saying,
A description for this result is not available because of this site's
robots.txt <http://www.herefordshire.lug.org.uk/robots.txt> – learn
more<https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CDkQvxowAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.google.com%2Fwebmasters%2Fbin%2Fanswer.py%3Fanswer%3D156449%26hl%3Den-GB&ei=SYNZU5X0Lemx0AWXyoCwBA&usg=AFQjCNHgDnYbSJhnntHwEYmBPbvuD_vzFA&sig2=bIvNFMoRr192nUMuhFtrXg&bvm=bv.65397613,d.d2k>
.
Well after looking at the page source this is the reason why :-
<meta name='robots' content='noindex,follow' />
ie, not quite a robots.txt file but a metatag doing the same thing saying
please dont index us ..
I've no idea why this is here, cant see why it should be. Perhaps it was
added before the launch when on other webspace to avoid being indexed by
google in the wrong place and never removed... ?
Kevin, if you have a second can you answer if its still needed? i doubt it,
but didnt want to mess with it just in case ..
Julian
