[HLUG] Wednesday Meeting at The Grange

Hi.

I have just received this Digest this morning (Thursday) at 10 am, which is
a bit late for last night's meeting, which fortunately I remembered to
attend!

Had I received it earlier, I could have course have mentioned that there is
plenty of free car parking available at the venue (Grange Court) itself!

It is a shame that more members did not receive the reminder, as I am sure
that a lot more would have liked to attend.

Thanks to everyone who was involved with booking the room, setting
everything up, and to Simon for his excellent presentation... even though a
lot of it went way over my head anyway!

Let's hope you hold some more meetings there in the future!

David

Hi

Just a reminder that one of our main events of the the year is being held
on Wednesday in at Grange Court in Leominster at 7.30pm.
Charlie and I tested out the facilities on Friday which all worked very
well, even the rather nice touchscreen screen worked immediately with Linux
so we're all primed for Wednesday night.

We would like to see as many members as possible come along for this
presentation - I think we can all learn a lot. Grange Court will make a
fine venue, and there will be drinks available too. There will be a small
charge to attend basically to cover the room hire.

You'll find details of the event here :-

http://www.hlug.org.uk/open-source-and-the-professional-audiovisual-environment-18-june-2014/

One word of note, Herefordshire Council are changing the chargeable car
parking hours throughout much of the county on Monday - therefore I believe
you will have to pay to park on Wednesday if parking at the Etnam St car
park in the evening. Luckily it's not expensive though.

This will be in effect our June meeting, not on the fourth Wednesday as is
usual.

Look forward to seeing you all there,

Julian

Subject: [HLUG] Make a note of the date - 18th June Next HLUG Special Event

Hi all

The date for the special event we will be having in June is now fixed, and
the room at Grange Court in Leominster is booked. Hopefully we will have a
smoother run than the last room I booked, alarms going off, wrongly
supplied wifi codes, problems with paperwork et al.

Charlie (Brightfield) is putting together more details about what the event
will comprise, but it's along the lines of a workshop showing what can be
done with the best open source graphic and audio visual tools for creation
and editing/production for professional purposes.

I have just put together a 'Titanpad' (like Piratepad, and open source)

*http://titanpad.com/e52AXjtzAL <http://titanpad.com/e52AXjtzAL>*

so we can share info, as as well as the room booking details, publicity,
tasks to complete etc, similar to how we did for Software Freedom Day in
past years etc; we should do with promoting the event to other similarly
minded groups around the county.

The Titanpad is open to all, but can be rolled back like a wiki should it
be defaced. Please have a look and help out with any of the tasks or submit
ideas that you can help.

Please reply here or on the Titan pad link if you have any queries.

Many thanks

Julian

I don't know if anyone is able to offer lifts? I can from Shobdon direction
to Leominster if that helps anyone? Perhaps people coming from Hereford may
want to lift share ?

See you later

Hi

Just a few last minutes updates from Grange Court. We will be in the
'Education room' upstairs on first floor, not the big John Able room at the
top.

*After 4pm the main automatic front doors are locked so access is only
through the back door (via the rear car park). This is a very heavy door so
you need to pull hard to open.*

*There is an AGM being held in the large John Abel room from 5.30-8.30, so
if the building seems busy that?s why! Bear in mind, however, that if you
are after tea and coffee there may be a fight for the cups.*

*There is a fire evacuation notice in the Education room, please read it
and make everyone aware of the procedure before you begin.*

*The free Grange Court wifi should work fine in the Education room, but if
you need it the code for the LARC wifi is LARCGrangeCourtWIFI (very CAPS
sensitive).*

See you all later. If anyone has any problems with access etc, or can't
find us, please call me on 0752 8055382 or email.

*Disabled access is excellent* as the building was newly redesigned only in
last few years with a lift right into our meeting room from downstairs, and
some disabled parking right outside the building (please ask for directions
for this as a bit tricky to find)

Don't forget this is our main LUG meeting for June, there will be no
meeting next week when it would normally be on. Also there is the
possibility of visiting the Linux Bier Wanderung folk down at Tal y bont on
Usk for next month, who said we can join them. Can talk about this tonight
before the meeting.
