Hi everyone

As previously agreed at discussed at our last LUG meeting last Weds, our
survey pointed to a strong liking for the topics 'Beginners Linux' and
'Linux distro choice', so we will have a special event with both of these
topics later in the month. Charlie has agreed to host this with help from
others on the evening. We plan to show how easy it is to install Linux by
doing this on the evening as part of the event, amongst other topics so it
will be aimed at real beginners to Linux and Open Source perhaps keen to
move from Windows, or new to computing entirely.

The plan is to hold this on our normal 4th Wednesday of the month, ie June
24th.

We considered holding it in the usual place at the Courtyard, but on
occasion it can get a bit noisy, so we decided to hold it at another venue
instead.

The previous event on 'Open source and the professional audio/visual
environment '
we held in Leominster at Grange Court went well with great facilities, but
unfortunately due to a glitch with the lug.org.uk mailing list, no mails
reminding everyone of the event and on the day itself went out to our
members so we had a reduced turnout for this reason.

I have emailed the Grange Court folk if we can book the same room last
time, which was fine for us, not too big and not too small.

All the organisation details for the event I have started on this Etherpad
here :-

https://pad.odoo.com/p/hlug-note.note-STR1TPSCJR

Ie event details, publicity, what's happening on the night, etc etc. This
is meant to be an open and collaborative space to concentrate our plans and
ideas for the event - so please click the link and help. There is a chat
facility too

We are looking for *any* help that anyone can provide to help organise the
event and make it a success both in the prep and during the evening.
Hopefully we should be able to use the brilliant flashy large touchscreen
we used last time which worked great with linux too.

If anyone is able to publicise the event to other groups they are part of
please do. The entry is open to anyone not just LUG members and will be
subject to a small charge, to cover the hire of the venue only.

Further details to come shortly

Julian
