Hi Julian ......et alI too have just bought a Lenova, awaiting its arrival Monday !
I have tried to load the disc i was given by the speaker ( what was his name ?) but there is something stopping it loading: I can see it and look in its DIR but not run it, whatever I click on....... putting my hopes on the Lenova when it comes!!If no joy, I'll bring it all to the next mtg I can get to, see if someone can sort it out. Regards, Have a nice day.

You could have installed a normal ubuntu kernel from the repos I would
guess if you wanted.

But the other issues almost sound like your install didn't complete fully
or something like that .. Very odd
