Yes source forge has had a not so good reputation over last couple of years
for adware sone of this not to nice.

This is partly why many projects have moved from SF to gitlab etc.

If you use Transmission you can just use apt-get as normal

I don't know if transmission or qbtorrrnt  works on Windows or not
