[HLUG] Broadband cable connection

Hi George,

BT don't usually just leave broadband cables 'hanging off poles', but I am
slightly confused as to why you ask if they will connect you with copper, as
I assume that you already have a broadband connection (of some sort) from
BT.

You then ask if they will connect you you with cable, I am not really sure
what else they could connect you with... unless of course you are looking
for a 'fibre' connection, although the final 'leg' into your property would
probably still be the existing (copper) cable.

Usually the fibre part of the BT network terminates (as Julian says) in a
nearby green cabinet, but in some cases they actually run the fibre cable
directly into the houses, but this arrangement is not that common.

You can check your actual broadband availability at
http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/.

Hope this helps!

Regards,

David

There's a new loop of broadband cable hanging off a pole 100 yards away:

I think they're going to fit a box to it.

Will they then connect to me with copper?

would things be faster if they connected to me with cable,

would this cost much extra?

Hi George

Yes you're very likely to get copper but normally the cable will run to a
green cabinet.

You're not likely to get a full fibre connection as its costs more to do
this but apparently some of the fibre to the house infrastructure my be in
place for any future requirements.
