[HLUG] Herefordshire Digest, Vol 2050, Issue 1

Personally I find the list a pain - as I may have mentioned in the past ;-)

It is not properly threaded for me and with so much repeated content and indentation in the digest it makes conversation hard.

I have started using Wire Messenger (Google Play and https://wire.com/en/download/ and https://github.com/wireapp/wire-desktop/wiki/How-to-install-Wire-for-Desktop-on-Linux ) as a simple group message platform, works on desktops, browser and mobiles, makes pics easy, syncs across devices and is encrypted and Open Source. It also does video and audio if ever needed.

I am not a fan of facebook and twitter is not the right fit for group chats. Whatsapp and the like are not OS and old style forums dont seem to work for the way people interact these days (tried it with other people groups!).

To get the group more active/useful it needs to be easier and more accessible to connections at the time need answers/help/contact arises and to get discussion happening about what would be nice to have. We also need an even wider range of ages perhaps?

On wire I am @donty if you want to try it out or have other ideas.

My time to come to events is somewhat limited at the moment so a simpler/cleaner form of interaction would help me contribute more.

Hi

Sorry for the late notice.

I will send further details later on today. Will be at the Courtyard as
usual.

I think we also need to look at having a proper meeting based on a topic,
perhaps at the Grange as before ..

Suggestions on topics welcomed

Julian

Hello

I really want the Herefordshire LUG to continue and get more active but the
recent interactions, number of people attending meetings, mailing list
postings etc are dying.

I sent a request a few hours back suggesting that we (I ) put on an event
for the group with a get together around a topic, like we've done before
quite successfully at the Grange in Leominster and in Hereford at a number
of venues.

So far there's been no response at all - nothing ... nada .... Members
always say they want to learn more and have more talks and demos than in
our normal meetings so I'm surprised at the total lack of any response to
this. I know it's nearly summer and the weather's nice, but responding to
an email only takes a few minutes at most something we all could do if we
wanted.

As I say, I really don't want the group to fold through lack of interest,
I'm keen to build it up again and I'm hoping this might elicit more of a
response than many other postings recently.

I've asked if we should move away from a mailing list as we have now, but
generally the (few) responses indicated that was fine and to stay as we
are. I'm happy to use or build another tool if it would help ..

There will be a meeting tomorrow as I will be going. It will be at the
Courtyard at 7.30pm upstairs on Mezzanine as usual.

I would like as many members as possible to come along even if you can only
be there for a short while, or alternatively if you can be available online
so we can discuss things further about restarting the group and providing
more impetus and what folk really want out of the group, and *more
importantly* what they can put IN.

I just I hope I'm not the only one attending tomorrow ..................

Julian

Hi Julian.
I wish you well in your efforts to revive the Hereford LUG.
Sadly, I can no longer drive, and am now unable to attend ANY LUG.
I still enjoy any email info.

Best regards,

Hi Julian,
Just received your mail, my internet connection is playing up.
On my to do list, ( as it has been for a while) when I finish the bathroom
is to replace my computer with a server, to connect everything, ( and be
able to put it out of sight)
