[HLUG] Future of the Herefordshire Linux Users Group ...

Dear Julian & everyone,
My name's Angharad (Ari), & I'm a linux user...
I love open source... (Especially QGIS, which I rely on in my work as a map-maker & data person....) I also love open data (& am part of the Open Data Institute's Cardiff node - which is pretty much the nearest to us).

Firstly, I apologise for being dormant on this forum & absent from meet ups. I met Julian about a year ago, and have been optimistically meaning to show my face ever since then! But then life gets in the way...

By way of feedback: I find this forum (emails) useful for bits & bobs of news, but I haven't felt the need to pester you all with technical problems & queries (yet!), as I've always found the answers I needed by searching existing questions on bigger forums... (I know that's no excuse for not introducing myself earlier, though - sorry!)
I do think perhaps it would work better as a chat rather than emails, as sometimes it all gets buried in an avalanche of other stuff in my inbox... I've used things Slack with other groups (e.g. ODI Cardiff), & found this easy & fun...

I would still like to make it to a meet-up, (as that's what really excited me about being in a group such as this..) but have found evenings difficult due to childcare (which is currently reserved for other things I need to do...). My only real free time currently is Mondays to Wednesdays, during school hours, which restricts things a bit...

Incidentally, though, I am starting a weekly 'computer club' on a Thursday morning in Leominster (10-11am at Reet Petite)... This is mostly catering for beginners (like older folk who want someone patient to take them through the basics of smart phones & tablets....), but it would be lovely to have anyone else turn up to talk about open source, networks, coding, data & fun stuff we can potentally learn from one another!

Hope that's helpful in some way...
& still hoping to meet you all one day. Soon.
I'll give more thought to things, meanwhile, and try to keep in touch,
Ari

Hi Julian,
Just received your mail, my internet connection is playing up.
On my to do list, ( as it has been for a while) when I finish the bathroom
is to replace my computer with a server, to connect everything, ( and be
able to put it out of sight)
