Yesterday's batch of Mint updates took out most recent Mint desktops
(including mine) with a

*Your session only lasted 10 seconds...........*
error message. The problem is caused by  a virtual box update and the
solution is as follows

Use Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get to a command prompt and login followed by

*sudo apt-get purge virtualbox-guest-dkms virtualbox-guest-x11*

This should not remove virtual box, but it should get you back to your
desktop.
