Hi all

I meant to post this after I attended this event but hey .. I didn't...

DevOps Days is a mini conference which is run in many locations around the
world but I went the Birmingham one held the week before last.

DevOpsdays.com

It wasn't a particularly techy event in some ways , not too much heavy
coding involved, but still a great event and lots of Open Source included.

There were talks on many subjects over the two days (I could only attend
for the first day). There were also a number stalls with some companies and
open source organisations present such as OpenUK, Elasticsearch, OWASP and
many others.

It was held at Millennium Point (near the HS2 works) and comprised of talks
and looser lightning talks.

Altogether a great event and I managed to get a free ticket including lunch
so it was well worth it.

I had an interesting chat with one of the guys at OpenUK openuk.org.uk who
really do have the ear of the govt and political parties which is
interesting to know

I also spoke to a Linux admin from Wolverhampton Uni who still goes to the
Wolves LUG events. They used to be one of the most active and well attended
Linux user groups but numbers are down for them. Still it was good to meet
up and chat. He told me it took a year to get some new Linux servers
commissioned at the Uni, which hardly seems credible.

TechUk www.techuk.org are also involved in organising these events and have
other events some in the Midlands.

So all in all there are now IT conferences and events taking place and well
worth attending. Altogether bit was a nice vibe and Millennium Point makes
a very professional conference location

I think there's a techUk event coming up again in Brum in Autumn if
anyone's interested.

Please post if you've been to anything similar near our patch.

Julian
