Hi Tony, thanks for the offer.
I've been emailing back and forth and I think I now know what the problem
is.
It probably involves about 30mins work tops, but would be easier to go
through it with someone who knows what they are doing if you are still
offering.

Basically it appears to boil down to the fact that the driver supplied with
the device won't work out of the box and is a pile of crock!
It's a generic driver that gets shipped just about all wireless devices, but
won't work on some distributions.

However, I have since found a better driver exists, which can be used. Not
only that, but it requires no compiling and minimal manual configuration.
