[Herts] Newbie help with Aspire One

Mike,

I wanted to get a small computer to use in my family history research. The small size of the Aspire One makes it easy to carry around and it doesn't take up too much desk space in crowded archives etc.

I like the proper keyboard (although it is a bit smaller than my PC) and now that I have re-installed the operating system it should do the job very well.

One big plus is that it locks onto wireless networks very easily. The British Library network was a breeze and so was the National Archives, once I discovered that I would need to use a proxy server for the web browser.

I have also just discovered how to mount my network drive so backing up and transferring files will be very simple.

In fact, I can thoroughly recommend the Aspire One (and I don't work for Acer!) with the Linpus OS.

Gerry

 No Problem :)

Sorry it didnt help ;)

Linux is quite a bit different to Windows and there is a fair bit to
learn if you are going to start hacking about with things. Glad to hear
you git it sorted in the end. One advantage Linux does have over Windows
is that usually it can be a lot easier to get help when things do go
wrong.

How are you finding the Aspire one otherwise? It looks like quite a nice
bit of kit.
