[Herts] Translating an open source project from German to English

Hi,

Before I go and reinvent the wheel..

I have been looking at ruby based application which has a German web
interface and German source comments.

Now before I consider using find replace and babelfish are there any
"automated" tools people would recommend that might help the task of
converting this to English? Or at least less German.. An automated tool
would at least avoid having to do it all again when the next version
comes out!
