Because it means stuff can fall in the top. And it's gonna cost ~£50 in
heatsinks :-( not worth it for most people.

Having said that I think I should get about the same airflow as 2x12cm
fans by convection with this design.

Thanks, the inside is the (imho) best bit. Since it is single sided not
a box it should be easy to get at the components. Having an aeronautics
friend check the material strengths.
