[Hudlug] Wireless connections

On Monday I was pleasantly surprised to find that my laptop had recognised and 
connected to Vox's Internet connection.  Afterwards, though, I discovered 
that my local connection configuration had lost its fixed IP settings.  Does 
this always happen when you move around?  Is there any way to protect the 
settings?
