with a few enquiries on the orca list, i do know how to do an 
ubuntu upgrade but you do appear to get speech that makes no 
sense or it switches to another language.
sudo do-release-upgrade dash d does appear to work best.
i have gone from a lucid to a maverick system.
i have just recently had a try at getting the development version 
of natty but maybe the image isn't yet out properly as i get 
error messages, something about deprecating and it aborts the 
upgrade with an error message stating that the previous system 
has been restored so i might try in a few days or weeks.
