does anyone know offhand the name of the distro that enables a snapshot of your configurations + installed applications with a toolkit to burn/create your own new version distro?
i am working with a team to install demo software onto a virtual machine, running on ubuntu.
having problems. need help. this is what we did:

Installed the free VMWare Server on the only WindowsXP machine in the server room.
Downloaded a VMWare image of Ubuntu (appliance) to this directory:
d:/Downloads/VMWare/Ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386/Ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386.vmx
d:/incoming/vmware/Ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386/Ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386.vmdk
the VMWare image started without any problems.
Installed and configured some 3rd party software, such as Apache2, fcgilib etc
Added the Grapeshot demo software. (Grapeshot Linux SDK, perl/sh scripts and a linux .cgi binary)
Took a checkpoint of the VMware image (same directory)
Renamed the directory, e.g. d:/incoming/vmware/Ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386
 to d:/incoming/vmware/Ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386-categorise-JT
In VMWare server, removed all the exisiting instances.
Double clicked on the VMWare image
Pressed "start" on VMWareServer
The VMWare machine wouldn't start up; an error was produced:
:"d:\downloads\vmware\ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386-categorise-jr\Ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386-000002.vmdk":
Failed to open parent "d:\downloads\vmware\ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386\Ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386.vmdk":
The system cannot find the path specified.
we included detailed notes (Using Ubuntu.txt.txt) and the full error log (vmware.log).

If you can throw any light on this, then you are probably a genius and that would be great :)
