It's possible it's somewhere below /usr/X11R6.  The man page shows the
list of places and names it searches for xorg.conf.  That's using Xorg
6.8.2.  I'm assuming you aren't using R7.

That's a nice a problem to have :)  I can't get my resolution high
enough for my liking as my screens will only do 1280x1024.
