For me, it's an issue of getting to meetings.
I live in Thanet and I don't drive. I also don't want to spend an hour
or so on a train if I can help it and I've got a load of other stuff
going on at the moment (my wife's 6 months pregnant!) so anything
thats more than about twenty minutes away by foot, bus or bike is out
of the question.
I've floated a few thoughts on the Thanet LUG list - however that
seems to be all but dead - about a LUG meet in the Thanet/Canterbury
area and there was a suggestion of a possible meeting place in
Broadstairs which would be ideal for me, however I've not moved on it
yet as there was only about five people interested.
A previous LUG I was a member of found a local pub for a few meetings,
got to know the Landlord and then gained permission to use his pub for
all our meetings in exchange for installing and configuring (at the
landlord's expense) his broadband connection and a wireless connection
across the pub - not a bad deal all in all [0].
My £0.02,
Matt
[0] wireless and beer is not always a good cobimnation - we regularly
held a "whats the weirdest thing you can find on eBay" competition and
a number of people ended up buying things they didn't need but were
"really cool" at the time. ;)
