windows does 'call home' periodically, particlary to during validation
checks when updating. There was something as well about windows
needing to be reactivated if you change significant parts of the
hardware - however I didn't think this is still the case.

If you have a dual boot system though with linux and windows the two
OS's are seen as entirely separate and won't effect each other in any
way
