I do find myself asking the question of why use either?
What function do they provide that say fvwm doesn't for considerably
less cpu/memory use?
I personally use evilwm, which I find an amazing window manager, and
detest the likes of gnome and kde.
This said, many users wouldn't get on with it, and having watched as it
took bofh 15 mins to fail to open an xterm on it, it really isn't for
everyone, and you do need to read the manual first. BUT when you have,
it makes things very very quick, and simple.
I used to use gnome.
I used to use kde.
I don't anymore.
