I can see ubuntu detaching from debian now. Its long understood that debian
'advocacy' (aka zealotry) has been its major downfall in the past. Ubuntu
changed the space by minimizing zealotry and creating an up to date
platform, the only problem with ubuntu in the market is the "we have this"
... NIH technology marketing.

I doubt that ubuntu and debian will remain good friends in the future.
Ubuntu just needed a reason not to trust their source.

for the record, two distros that I think are far superior to debian/ubuntu,

OpenSolaris, which is kick ass and Ian Murdoch now he's no longer a member
of the community he described as being too politically motivated has
created something truly fantastic.
Foresight, for crying out loud I can can downgrade my packages, patch my
packages with a minimal download size! Debian "is fundamentally
incompatible" with package kit, apparently.

flame me if you want but everyone I know refers to debian advocates as
nuts... Its funny, they never back down, never admit they're wrong and will
defend the distro to the death. Sounds like apple fan boi's to me :P
