Hi Julia,

Well Wikipedia suggests reliably that the Bourne Shell was 1977 which indeed
corresponds to my copy of Bourne's book.

The SIMH emulator for various old CPUs can be used with a free to use copy
of old versions of Unix so if you desire you could easily ascertain the
veracity of your assertion.

I suspect that for most users the Desktop metaphor will continue to be the
one used for the  foreseeable future.
