Some comments:
Mumble isn't packaged as yet for Fedora 9.
More importantly it has major levels of dependencies.
So far I've spent 3 hours trying to build an RPM on Fedora 9 which is
what I use on my machines.
I appreciate why you want to do voice conferencing. I'm not sure mumble
is the right platform.
I understand it's available in Ubuntu/Debian/Xanados as a package.
The reason IRC is popular is that IRC clients exist for almost all platforms
from Amiga
