I had a similar dicussion with them a few months ago - it's like the 
bank advert "Brand new customers only"

This has always been my biggest beef with virgin - the customer service 
for existing customers is shocking. I recently found that you get 10 
gigs of online storage with them and 25 free photo prints a month, but 
only because a friend pointed it out - not becuase virgin told me at any 
time (windows only i'm afraid)

The solution is ring them up and have a good winge, eventually you'll 
get through the cutomer services/ retention people and they should 
offfer you the lower rate - you'll have to sign up to new 12 month 
contract though.

I my case I ended up paying less and also got bounced onto the better tv 
package.
