If you mean Microsoft Windows versions by windows flavours then I don't
think this will help.
If you mean Gnome, KDE etc. then try sshfs.
I keep my files on a single desktop and use them at home and at work on
five different computers. I just mount the server onto a folder on the
remote machine. Effectively there's only one copy and it stays on the
server.
