Yup. The password I put in was MYROLEPASSWORD which is what is suggested 
in the installation instructions, although it did say change it to your 
own choice. I didn't do that because there are four passwords in the 
instructions and I'd only get confused if I used different ones.

Anyway I looked at ledgersmb.conf again this morning to check that it is 
there, and it is.

Still baffled, still trying to get it going.
