Never underestimate the power of stupidity.
I have seen servers that would randomly reboot at the same time every
evening, finally diagnosed as the cleaner unplugging it to plug in the
hoover.
Wireless that died same time everyday, finally diagnosed as the boss
microwaving his lunch with a dodgy microwave.
As well as looking at the technical things, also look at the people
things. You might find that occasionally someone is patching the network
into a ring and STP isn't enabled or supported.
I have not seen any major issues with interference from power in the same
trunk, and it would more likely manifest as a constant packet loss, not
regular outages.
The reason for not putting power and data in the same trunk is actually
more to do with if there is a power surge, sticking a short sharp spike of
power down the lighting circuit would then turn your cables into a crude
transformer, which then transfers the spike into the data cables. That is
the theory. I am sure Kev will be along soon to quote the regs at us and
explain what's really happening.
