So it seems. I have finally succumbed and put ubuntu ver 10 on to my
backup machine and kubuntu (I prefer kde) on to my main machine. I can
see the required backup file on the backup machine from the main
machine. Amazingly I have not been able to do that for over a week.
Previously it all worked with PCLOS on both machines under NFS. Then it
stopped.
Safe now, thanks for all the advice.
