[Klug-general] Using a second ADSL line for failover

I have two ADSL lines.

On the same Subnet

I have a linux box running squid that operats as a firewall to my main network.

I would like to set it up so if one fails, the other one takes over.
and ideally if they are both working some of the load can be shared
between both of them. I relies that I might end up with half the
internet using one ADSL line and the other half using the other, but
thats better than nothing.

I'm thing ping scripts and a series of if add default gw requests when
things go wrong.... but is there a better way.

Any ideas.
