Thanks for that offer Gavin. I've taken a further look at the new
graphics card. As far as I can see there is no secondary power socket on
it. Certainly not along the top edge where other cards viewed
(magnified) on ebay and claiming to be GeForce 9400 series seem to show
the short row of double pins. Mine is without that feature.
It does have a very small white plastic two pin socket but I always
thought that was what sound cards use - but it ain't a sound card. So
still baffled.
It seems to work very well apart from these odd screen blanks. Those
occur mainly in heavily graphical programs like GoogleEarth and
Stellarium which I do like to use. But I am not a gamer and I don't lose
anything so I suppose I will have to lump it. It isn't a serious problem.
When/if this one blows, I'll come to you for a suitable replacement
instead of popping down to Cheriton and buying something off the shelf.
Having the same problem with Vista 64-bit seems to indicate that it is a
common problem because I am using the delivered driver with that.
My main OS is PCLinuxOS which is, unfortunately, only available in
32-bit. When I queried this, the group suggested I volunteer to deliver
a 64-bit version by compiling every source on the repository.
Yeah! I'm really qualified to do that (not). Anyway, how do you do that
when the compiler they supply is also 32-bit? I would have to re-compile
the compiler as the first step. Now that really is outa sight!
Thanks to you and the group for helping though.
