I have the feeling it may be a kernel command line or worse (but I don't thibk so) a kernel compile time option.

Well I did that. And it had an no effect. I also tried Toms stty cols 80
rows 40, which did work kinda. In so far as I ended up with a 80x40
terminal in the top left corner of the screen with the same font size,
meaning that it wasted alot of screen space...
I wonder if rebooting would have the desired effect, but I refuse to
beleive that linux has got so out of hand that the only way to fix a
problem is to reboot.
