[Klug-general] Backup drive

I use a usb enclosure on a hard drive and keep in a magnetic media fire safe on my desk.
The cons are: usb is slow and the fire safe was quite pricey (from Staples).
My feeling is that it's best to have a multi-way backup regime.
So: on the base unit the second hd is used for backup on a one letter alias (to rsync)
then the usb drive whenever I think of it.
Add the cloud and anything that loses your data probably means you're dead too.

Subject: [Klug-general] Backup drive
Just had a HDD fail on me which is still under warranty so hope will get replaced but am considering getting a backup drive for that 10% of data which might be worth backing up.
An internal backup drive would be the third HDD in my machine and things might get a bit too toasty in there. Wondering about an external drive which doesn't need to be plugged in consuming power?
Cheap and cheerful, around £50 for 1tb? External?
James.
