Remind me tonight and I'll have a look at my HTPC to see if there is an xorg.conf file.

I use the latest NVIDIA from this page...

...and go through the switch-out-of-x, lightdm stop, install, lightdm start, reboot INSTALL process... but that is only when I CHANGE drivers.

I am using Mythbuntu 12.04, and don't judge me on that either, because it is running so well for an all singing all dancing home theatre pc server makes the coffee and does the washing up...

...I ain't upgrading it.
