It's certainly possible to disable UEFI on a Acer Aspire V5, Model ZHL
because I bought one from Argos for 250£ and then got Marsh Computers
to rip out the UEFI protection.
(After W8 persuaded me that Microsoft still hates its customers.)
It's currently running Slackware 14 adequately well.
How they did the deed I do not know.
Apparently the first hurdle was getting at the BIOS
after which the appropriate setting was changed to Legacy.
After that it was all down to fdisk and stuff.

There are a couple:-
( I've not used any yet - reports welcome )
Pcspecialist.co.UK
Pcspecialist is definitely out of my price range. I was hoping for something in the 200£ - 400£ range.
Novatech.co.UK
This is much more promising. The Novatech nPro N1574 looks like a winner.
There may be others too, but those are the ones I've heard of. Which might bode well.
To give you an idea of what I'm after, have a look at the price & specs of Dell's Inspiron 15 laptop.

My only misgiving is how to totally & completely remove Windows 8 (no, I don't want to dual boot; I want a linux-only machine.)
Does anyone know how difficult it is to get around the UEFI problem?
Thanks again for your help and brevity is the soul of wit as someone once said.
Cheers,
Jonathan
