Not much really, but Ive just been playing with the recently released open
SUSE v11.1 (32 bit). I downloaded the ISO and md5 files last night.

I first tried it via VirtualBox (installed via the md5 checked ISO file) and
found a few wobblies with the latest version of KDE4. Unlike openSUSE v11.1,
there's no option to install KDE3.5. I do not like KDE4 !!!

Next I did a full install on one of my Athlon boxes. This was the only OS
installed. ie no dual boot setup. The first attempt resulted in a failure to
setup access to the Internet, so could not download additional packages.

The next attempt resulted in a low res desktop and no contact with the
keyboard or mouse, so couldn't log in. Mouse and keyboard are wireless via
USB port.

At this point I got fed up and re-installed open SUSE v11.1. No problems at
all, and I got the option to set up KDE3.5 instead of KDE4. All is running
fine. This particular PC hax given good service and has been rock steady
(Gigabyte mobo, Athlon XP 2200+ with 1.5GB of RAM)

A shame! I was looking forward to some new stuff. Others have given favourable
reports on v11.2. I know SUSE quite well and am familiar with the
installation routine, so I'm puzzled to understand why I should have had
problems.

So for now, I recommend that anyone thinking of trying openSUSE should stick
with v11.1. This works fine for me in both 32 and 64 bit versions and on a
number of PCs.

WRT recording from TV:
I use Kaffeine to run my digital TV card, play CDs, etc. Kaffeine also
provides for recording of TV material, but I haven't used this.

I would like to come along, but at this stage I don't know if I will be able
to. I've been having back problems and have already had an MRI scan. I'm to
see a specialist on this coming saturday so I better keep my diary clear in
case they decide to do something for me soon.

Hope that all are well

See you sometime ??????????
