Hi all,

Ok, lot to get through not much time to do it.

First of all the LUG, the website and the wiki.

>I would not mind contributing into the website. But it needs direction
and >input from the entire lug.

We did have the website and wiki being updated regularly (a long time
ago, in a galaxy far, far away) but "real life" got in the way. Iain got
busy and the wiki got spammed. Both these and other circumstances
contributed to the current situation, but then again we are all
responsible for the LUG we are members of... time to pull our fingers
out to get things kick started again!

> I have given up on checking the wiki it just gets more bizzare every
>day...

Oh yes... My articles replaced by adverts for Viagra... oh, the joys of
the internet.

used.

Wiki... necessary? No. Was fun to see it working before it got spammed.
I like the idea of a forum and a FAQ and will be more than glad to help
out with the website.

I am a traditionalist though and couldn't live with irc alone... mailing
lists all the way for me. You take the time to write an email, what you
write is far more considered (hopefully) than the quick short msg's sent
by irc.

>If members could meet to discuss things (or just meet to hang out on
the >irc channel advertised), then perhaps it could move forward.

Ah, in fear of starting the great LLUG "Lincolnshire is too big to
arrange a meeting that everyone can attend" debate. Here's my
suggestion. Why don't we hire the sports hall in Boston like we did for
our first meeting and whoever can get there gets there! Keeps the LUG
alive and hey it would be good to meet old and new faces alike.

>Stop this subsription c#@p, stop emailing me

Second time this guy has e-mailed the list about being unsubscribed. Any
chance of us being able to remove him from the list, he's seriously
messing with my karma.

Re. Andy Cooper's query about distro's

I second Alistair's suggestion of Ubuntu as a starting distro. Live CD,
ease of use and a clean (if brown) GNOME interface. Can't go wrong
really.

And finally... the LLUG award for best worst joke of the year award goes
to Simon Paulger for his "Parity Error" joke.

A byte walks into a bar and orders a pint. Bartender asks him "What's
wrong?"
Byte says "Parity error." Bartender nods and says "Yeah, I thought you
looked a
bit off."

Cheers,
