I was hoping it was going to be similar to bugtraq with the alerts, and
well if there's any new techniques out, show them to the group etc..

I am a member of the Manchester LUG, and also run a mini Linux Users Group at the company where I work - trying to promote Linux as a user environment, and also as part of the feed into the SIG.

I like being able to show our IT Security teams how to deal with IT problems when the occur, and also so I don't sound like an idiot when I talk about how much more secure Linux is than Windows - just incase it doesn't quite work like that :)

At work we have recently started a Linux SIG. I see a big part of this being security. We have a couple of computers that we're installing different flavors of Linux, and then seeing what types of exploits are available and how to lock them down. Right now my main interest is learning how they work and how to prevent them. Once I learn more I will probably be more interested in the forensics as well.
