Job Description
ClusterVision is specialised in the design, implementation and support

and elsewhere in Northern Europe.
We have a position available for an enthusiastic hands-on PC hardware
expert with some Linux knowledge and good customer facing skills.
This position involves onsite installing, configuring and testing of
our clusters. In addition, you will provide onsite and remote
hardware/software support to our customers. The required training in
Linux clustering technologies will be provided for by ClusterVision.
There will be ample opportunity to develop your skills and to take
initiative. You will have the opportunity to work with the latest
hardware technologies such as the new Itanium 2 and Opteron platforms
and high speed network interconnects such as InfiniBand & Myrinet. In
time, you are expected to develop your Linux skills to a professional
level.
Required and desirable skills
ClusterVision is a young and rapidly growing company. You'll have to
be skilled, flexible and reliable. You can take initiative, can deal
with responsibility, and have a "can do" mentality. This job is very
'hands-on'. A large part of the job consists of helping the
responsible ClusterVision engineers for building the cluster hardware
and cabinets. You will be travelling in the UK and possibly abroad,
fixing hardware and supporting our customers with (low-level) Linux
problems. Once your Linux skills are sufficient you should be able to
finalise large cluster installations consisting of sometimes hundreds
of nodes.
Linux
Our supercomputer cluster operating system and software environment is
based on Linux. Skills regarding clustering would be seen as
advantageous, but not strictly necessary.
PC Hardware
You will be working with a range of PC hardware technologies and you
should be familiar with at least the basics of TCP/IP, CPU/memory
technologies and IDE/SCSI hard disks.
Customer Facing Skills
You will spend time at customer sites so you are expected to have good
customer facing skills. You will also be communicating with customers
on the phone and through email.
General
You will travel throughout the UK for cluster installations and
hardware support. Therefore, having a clean drivers license and the
ability to communicate well in English are very important.
