ACADEMIC-RELATED RESEARCH STAFF
GRADE IA: Salary ?19,460 - ?29,128p.a.:

Applications are invited for this post within Oxford Astrophysics. The
post holder will assist the Computer Manager with the support of the
computer facilities and provide front line support for around one
hundred users. Amongst other tasks, this will entail installation,
upgrading and patching of Debian based Linux PC's, monitoring system
security, managing system backups, printers and the provision of
consumables. You will manage and maintain operational systems including
key services such as web servers, anonymous and local user ftp servers,
email infrastructure (mail transport and clients), DNS, NTP, and nfs
servers/clients.

System administration experience with UNIX is essential, as are good
interpersonal skills. The candidate should be educated to at least
degree level and have a good working knowledge of Linux, PC hardware,
fault diagnosis, TCP/IP networking, perl and shell scripting.

The post is initially available for one year, subject to review. The
start date is planned as August 1, 2005 or as soon as possible
