Linux Application Systems - Team Leader
£33,780 - £37,534 - (Permanent/Indefinite)
Aims of Job
The Operations Centre wishes to recruit a Linux Application Systems Team Leader. Working in a busy Computing Department servicing a research campus of >1000 staff, the Team Leader will be a senior source of Linux/UNIX expertise on campus, and take a hands-on technical role leading a small team in the development and support of IT infrastructure projects. This will further underpin our science by strengthening the support and delivery of Linux/UNIX systems and application platforms to end-users, enabling High Performance Computing, GRID/Cloud and enterprise storage systems. There will be overlap and involvement with services and projects in MS Windows, Active Directory and IP networking. The post will contribute to IT infrastructure decision making, and the selection of new software and hardware for laboratory projects or campus-wide infrastructure. A key area of work will be the on-going development and significant expansion of IT facilities for The Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC).
Person Specification
Ideally the post holder will have an Honours degree in a technical Computing subject, HND or British Computer Society professional qualification with equivalent experience. RedHat (RHCE) or equivalent experience is required, with a successful track record implementing Linux/UNIX based platforms in a multi-user environment. The successful candidate will have a pro-active and customer focussed approach with good communication skills, previous staff supervision and project planning ability. Experience gained in a scientific or engineering research establishment would be an advantage. Strong programming/scripting skills are essential.
