Internet communication and associated services to the student sector and

Job Title: Senior Developer
Job Summary: Working as part of the Technical Development team within the
Service Delivery department, the Senior Developer will be
responsible for the creation and maintenance of static
websites, dynamic web applications, and other back-end systems
that work together to support the Cablecom product
portfolio under the StudentCom, Freewire and other related
brands.
Reports To: Technical Development Manager
Salary Range: £30k - £35k depending on qualifications and experience
Duties include:
* Design, develop and support template driven websites including databases and
interfaces to allow for easy updating of content by clients.
* Design, develop and support web based applications to provide end-user
account registration and management including online purchasing capabilities
and interfaces to backend systems.
* Design, develop and support back-end systems including interfaces to both
internal and external third party systems.
* Design, develop and support internal tools to allow administration,
management and monitoring of all system components. Support and enhance
existing web based and back-end systems to meet ongoing customer
requirements.
* Define and perform unit and system testing of new and existing applications,
engaging relevant parties where necessary.
* Define and perform acceptance testing and reporting of results
* Monitor web server and site technical performance and optimize systems to
provide best user experience and hardware utilisation.
* Ensure that all applications and systems are fully documented
* Ensure that all applications and systems are secure and comply with relevant
security standards and regulations (including PCI-DSS and Data Protection Act)
* Any other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor
Must Have Skills:
The candidate must be able to demonstrate 3 or more years experience of the
following technologies and skills:
PHP (Object Oriented, Web based and standalone)
Perl
Linux
MySQL
Secure Programming Techniques (in particular, compliance with PCI-DSS)
Should Have Skills:
The candidate should be able to demonstrate practical experience of:
HTML / CSS
Graphics manipulation
Javascript
Flash / Flex / AIR
Desirable Skills:
Experience of the following skills and technologies would be beneficial to
this role:
Web and Graphical design
C/C++
VoIP (SIP, Asterisk, SBC)
IPv4, IPv6, Multicast routing and switching on Cisco hardware
IPTV Middleware
DHCP (at a protocol level)
SNMP
Gaming and Gaming Servers
Social Networking Integration
