/The primary role for the Research and Teaching Support Officer (RTSO)
will be HPC Queue Manager; the RTSO will be responsible for managing the
queue software running on the College's central High Performance
Computing (HPC) cluster to ensure that the cluster resources are shared
equitably and transparently among users.

The RTSO will be responsible for managing the current queue resource
manager and scheduler (Sun Grid Engine), and modifying the installation
subject to the needs of the user community. The RTSO will be expected to
deliver continual HPC service improvement by modifying queue
configuration parameters to optimize scheduling policies such as cluster
usage, average queue time, etc. To this end, the RTSO will be expected
to be able to extract comprehensive usage statistics from the queue and
deliver quality reports on the usage of the HPC facility to both
Research IT and academic stakeholders.

The RTSO will be responsible for providing all support for the smooth
running and efficient usage of the HPC queue system. Proactive
monitoring of the queue performance will be expected to ensure that
incidents are detected and resolved before the service is significantly
impacted. The RTSO will be responsible for dealing with all help desk
tickets involving the use of the queue.

A key component of this position involves training users, coming with a
varying degree of experience with clusters and linux, on how to use the
queue system. This training will involve online assistance, 1-on-1
sessions and workshops. The RTSO will be responsible for forming a user
group for gathering feedback on the HPC service.

The RTSO will also be charged with evaluating alternative queue
applications (such as Moab, LSF, Condor, etc.) and determining the best
way forward to meet the requirements of the QMUL computational research
community.

The RTSO will work closely with the Applications and Infrastructure
teams in Research IT to ensure a quality service is delivered to the
research community. The RTSO will also be expected to consult with
academics to ensure that the service meets their expectations./

/The post is full time and permanent. Starting salary will be in the
range £34,283 - £40,335 per annum inclusive of London Allowance Benefits
include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and
