Editure Education is a Brighton-based company who specialise in software for
the education sector. We designed the UK's first large scale Virtual Learning
Environment (VLE) and the first learning platform, DB Primary, designed solely
for primary schools. We currently have a vacancy for a Linux Systems

Editure is a small but fast growing company, low on politics and bureaucracy
and high on innovation and technical excellence. It's a fun and friendly place
to work with a genuinely constructive and collaborative attitude. The
successful candidate will join a team of two existing Systems Administrators

We're looking for someone who likes to do things the right way and enjoys deep
technical challenges. There is a lot of scope to be involved in and drive
projects using new and emerging technologies, so you should be able to design

things simple.

The systems team is also responsible for supporting our developers and acting
as a point of escalation for our Customer Support team. We support the office
network and computers (including some Windows desktops). Some low-volume
on-call work is required and occasional out-of-hours work is necessary.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to enjoy a stimulating
and varied role, working in a fast-paced environment encompassing many
different technologies and it is a great opportunity to make a difference in a
fast-growing company. You need to be comfortable working in an environment of
rapid development, as part of a multi-disciplined technical team, and will be
expected to actively contribute to the evolution of working practices and
processes.

Required skills:
* Solid and proven experience of administering Linux machines (we mainly use
  Ubuntu Server).
* Experience running scalable web platforms and software.
* Good understanding of common application-layer network protocols (DNS, SMTP,
  HTTP, IMAP, etc.)
* Scripting in preferably more than one of Shell, Perl, Ruby or Python.
* Administration of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL in
  clustered/replicated environments.
* Comfortable working in a datacentre environment.

Desirable skills:
* Experience of a using and supporting a Java environment and related
technologies such as the JVM, Apache Tomcat, Jenkins and Maven.
* Good working knowledge of TCP/IP and network security.
* Experience with virtualisation technologies such as KVM, Xen or VMWare.
* Experience with high availability systems and clusters.
* Configuration management using Puppet.
* Comfortable with version control using Git and Subversion.
