Linux Support Analyst, Corporate Business Services, National Oceanography Centre (NOC), Southampton

About the role :
We are seeking to appoint two Linux support analysts to join the Scientific Computing and Infrastructure team at NOC Southampton which provides support to several hundred scientists working on diverse systems ranging from laptops  and workstations  to servers and high performance compute clusters. The work is challenging and specialised. These roles will include day to day administration of servers, storage arrays and virtual machines and development and implementation of new services.

Experience with Linux, in particular RedHat, SUSE and their derivative distributions is essential. Knowledge of  virtualisation technologies, directory services, parallel filesystems, SAN and other storage technologies, enterprise backup systems, scripting languages and Mac OS would be an advantage.

You will be based at the NOC Southampton.

The post is offered as a fixed term appointment 2 years on NERC terms and conditions.

Salary:
The salary offered is in the range  £26,715 to £30,000 (NERC Band 6) per annum depending on experience.

About you:
You will possess a relevant degree qualification or have equivalent work experience.  You will also have an ability to work independently but also as an integral part of a team split across two sites, excellent troubleshooting skills, strong organisational and communication skills. An ability to prioritise work and balance conflicting demands on your time would be an advantage.
